Celebrated snowboarder's mountain home

This new home, set in the woods near a ski resort, is a full-time residence for a well-known professional snowboarder and his family. They love black and the drama it creates when contrasting with the warm wood tones in this Timber Frame house. The center island features a practical yet beautiful soapstone surface. Perimeter counters are carefree engineered stone in a beautiful light chamois color to balance with all the black. Lighting consists of a combination of recessed and stylish hanging pendants, continuing the black theme. The couple wanted to extend the exposed timber feel into the kitchen so the challenge was to create enough storage space to accommodate their needs. As a result we created a custom furniture piece for china/dish storage that extends into the dining room space, once again choosing to finish it in a distressed black painted surface to give a feeling of age and softness. A rich, multi-colored slate backsplash attractively bridges the gap between the light and dark values of the counters and cabinets.
