Designed to encompass magnificent mountain views, this lovely contemporary home was built by a retired couple to house an extended family for their ski vacations in Vermont. Its spacious kitchen provides plenty of room for family meal preparation and a culinary stage for all the entertaining that this couple enjoys. The owners wanted to preserve a more formal look even though the kitchen is visually part of the whole open space plan, and so chose not to include counter seating. The formal approach is further reinforced by the use of traditionally stained cherry cabinetry throughout, with an emphasis on architectural detailing that is proportional to the large space. Two large kitchen sinks, each with its own faucet, are placed side-by-side to make meal preparation and clean-up that much easier form many hands. The distressed paint finish of the hutch unit in a rich blue complements all the rich cherry tones of the rest of the cabinetry. Granite countertops are a combination of organic greens and blues. <Large central cooking island with prep sink with a dramatic stainless hood is a focal point in this home where everything is on a grand scale. |
