Views of the harbor from this kitchen Martha’s Vineyard is the backdrop for this summer home for a large family with five children, 13 grandchildren and many other family members. The house was transformed through a series of additions by architect, Mark Hutker, and still holds on to the summer camp feeling. One addition produced not only several new bedrooms and baths, but also the new hub of the house–a large kitchen and small morning porch. Traditional inset-style cabinetry, beadboard backsplashes, and white Corian countertops add to the informal spirit of this clean and bright space. The all white surfaces, countertops, and appliances which include a cooktop with oven below, are easy to keep clean and frame the dramatic view of the harbor. The addition of a second sink in the island helps speed food prep and clean-up, while a unique under-cabinet backsplash window, with a view to a flower-filled windowbox, looks out on bird feeders and Cape Cod beyond, giving the cook a constant view to the natural world. |
