Post and beam vacation home features an inviting country kitchen
This vacation ski home constructed in traditional
post and beam style, is deep in the woods surrounding Stratton Mountain
and features a country kitchen open to an expansive great
room. The kitchen is designed for large family gatherings
and serious cooking with its ample counter space and a 5' restaurant-style
range. The counters are a brushed charcoal gray granite which produces
a beautiful organic texture, complimenting the satin finish of the
painted cabinetry. The expansive preparation and clean up counter space
overlooks backyard gardens and wildlife in the woods beyond. General
lighting is provided by contemporary cable lighting positioned between
the beams, while under-cabinet halogen fixtures give excellent task light.
The backsplash and flooring are tiled in the
same granite with an intricate but subtle pattern underfoot. The niche
over the range features unusual pewter art accent tiles and provides
storage for often used vinegars and oils.
The client loves red which is a predominant
color throughout the home. An umber glaze over red paint was chosen for
the cabinets to produce a patina of age and softness to contrast with
the granite surfaces. Refrigerator wall encompasses a built-in refrigerator
a large pantry for food storage with can racks on the doors. Next to
the refrigerator the microwave accessible to both the kitchen and the
great room.
