outfitted with adjustable shelves and door storage to make everything
more visible and accessible.
A taste of Provence
Yearly sojourns to Provence were the inspiration for
this kitchen in a traditional Vermont village home and the result is
cozy and intimate with many unusual features. Niches and graceful corbels
balance the clean lines
of cabinets and countertops. The lack of counter and storage
space in this small kitchen created a design challenge for this very
serious cook, and one solution included a convenient under-counter
space for microwave and cookbooks. Refrigerator components are situated
in unique places as well. A custom vertical unit in 3 sections was constructed
in a narrow width to accommodate the large range and placed behind cupboard
doors and drawers. Under-counter freezer drawers are positioned across
the room. The 2-drawer dishwasher next to the sink also gets the discreet
cabinet-like treatment. All of which creates a pleasing uniformity of
surface and sense of spaciousness. A soft yellow stucco finish on the
walls, and granite countertops in ochre tones complete the earthy, cheerful
feeling the owners were looking for.
